Physon is not an official warning service

Physon's forecasts and alerts are not warnings. For weather warnings, see the Bureau of Meteorology. In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

Why can't I get a forecast for my town?

Physon only forecasts places where its model, STA, has passed an exam and then at least 14 days of live checks. Other places show their status and no forecast. You can tap Tell me when … is ready to hear when that place is ready. Each place's status is on the exam status page and in the app under How accurate is Physon?

Why does every value have a range and a confidence level?

Physon shows how sure it is about each number: a range, and a level (High, Medium or Low). When the weather is unusual, it says so and shows the standard forecast alongside.

Why does Physon ask for my location?

Only to find the nearest place it forecasts. This happens on your phone; your location is never sent to us. You can say no and choose a place from the list.

I'm not getting alerts

  1. In Physon, open Settings → Alerts and check the alert is switched on.
  2. In iPhone Settings → Notifications → Physon, check Allow Notifications is on.
  3. Open Physon once while online: it re-registers your phone for alerts.
  4. Focus modes can hold notifications back; check Settings → Focus.

Alerts are only sent for places Physon forecasts, and only when the forecast meets your rule.

The forecast says "Updated 7 h ago" / values look faded

Physon keeps the last forecast for offline use. After 6 hours the values are dimmed. Pull down to refresh once you are online.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app: everything stored on your phone goes with it, and your alert registration is switched off. You can also email us. See the privacy policy.

Where does the data come from?

Physon's forecasts are made by its own model from ECMWF open data and Copernicus ERA5 (both CC BY 4.0). The full credits are in the app under Settings → About & data sources.
