Physon privacy policy
Effective date: 12 October 2026
Physon is a weather app for places in Australia, made by Physon ("Physon", "we"). This policy explains what the Physon app and this website collect, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- Your location stays on your phone. Physon uses it only to work out which of its places is nearest to you. It is never sent to us and never stored.
- No account, no name, no email address. You do not sign up for anything.
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking. We do not sell or share your data, and neither the app nor this website contains advertising or analytics code. This website sets no cookies.
- If you turn on alerts, our server keeps what it needs to send them: a notification token for your phone, your forecast place and your alert settings.
What the app uses on your phone only
- Location. If you tap Use my location, iPhone asks for your permission. Physon then reads your approximate position while you are using the app, compares it with the list of places it forecasts, and remembers the place you end up with. Your position is not stored and is never sent to Physon or anyone else. Physon never uses your location in the background. You can say no and pick a place from the list instead.
- Settings and the last forecast. Your units, chosen place, alert choices and the last forecast you downloaded are saved on your phone so the app works offline. A random identifier for your alert registration (see below) is kept in your phone's secure storage.
What is sent to our server
1. Forecast requests. To show a forecast, the app asks our server for a place by its name in our list (for example "darwin"). That request contains no location and no identifier.
2. Alerts (only if you turn on notifications). If you allow notifications, the app registers your phone with Physon's alert service so alerts can reach you when the app is closed. It sends and we keep:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| The push notification token Apple issues for Physon on your phone | to deliver alerts through Apple's push service |
| A random device ID the app creates | to update or remove your registration |
| Your forecast place, and any places you asked to hear about ("Tell me when … is ready") | to know which forecast to check |
| Your alert choices (for example "temperature above 35 °C", "rain likely", the daily summary time) and your units | to decide when to alert you and to write the alert in your units |
| A record of the alerts sent to your phone (time, place, text, confidence level) | so the same alert is not sent twice |
We use this only to send the alerts you chose. We do not know who you are: the registration contains no name, email address, phone number or precise location, and we do not combine it with any other data.
Notifications are delivered by Apple Push Notification service, which receives the token and the text of each alert in order to deliver it.
3. Ordinary connection data. Like any internet service, our server and its hosting provider see your phone's IP address and the time when the app connects. We do not use it to locate you. Our own server does not write IP addresses or notification tokens to its logs; to stop overuse it keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of the address in memory for at most an hour. Our hosting provider may keep its own short-term technical logs of requests, for security and to fix faults; we do not use them to identify you.
4. Emails you send us. If you write to weather@physon.ai, we keep your email to answer it.
This website
physon.ai shows information about Physon and each place's exam status. It has no forms and no sign-up, sets no cookies, and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. Our web host, Vercel Inc. (United States), sees your IP address and the pages you request, as every web host does, and keeps request logs for a short period under its own policy.
Where your data is kept
Our server runs on Modal Labs, Inc. (United States). Your alert registration may therefore be stored outside Australia.
How long we keep it
- Alert registration: while alerts are on. If you turn off notifications for Physon, or delete the app, Apple tells our server that the token no longer works and your registration is switched off. Switched-off registrations are not yet deleted automatically; you can ask us to delete yours at any time (see below).
- Forecast requests: not kept beyond the server logs above.
- Emails: as long as needed to answer you.
Your choices
- Location: you can refuse or later turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Physon. Physon still works: choose a place from the list.
- Notifications: turn alerts off in the app (Settings → Alerts) or turn off notifications in Settings → Notifications → Physon. Physon works without them.
- Deleting your data: deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone and switches off your alert registration. You can also ask us to delete it at weather@physon.ai. Because a registration is not linked to your name or email, we can find it only from the device ID the app created; turning off notifications for Physon switches it off at once.
- Access and correction: you can ask us what we hold about you and to correct it, at weather@physon.ai. If you are in Australia you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) if you are not satisfied with our answer.
Children
Physon is a general weather app. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the effective date. If a change means the app collects something new, we will say so in the app before it does.
